When the Root Children Wake Up

Written by: Audrey Wood           Illustrated by: Ned Bittinger

LIl Bug loves gnomes so we were a little disappointed when we couldn’t find any books about gnomes at the library (suggestions are welcome!). So we expanded our search to include fairies and other forest dwellers and that is how we found the Root Children. In this story, Old Grandfather Winter is returning to his palace of ice and Mother Earth begins to wake up the Root Children. They use rainbows to make special clothes for the masquerade. Once they are ready Mother Earth lets them outside they play, sing and dance with Kind Aunt Spring, Jolly Cousin Summer and Studious Uncle Fall before returning to their underground home for a long winter’s nap.

And Lil Bug’s first ever review, drum roll please…

Lil Bug: I like Root Children. Root Children play in the water with the guy with the fiery beard (Cousin Summer). I like the guy with the fiery beard, he is funny.
